Recently we received a couple of questions regarding the BURN product and whether it is safe to take for people with blood pressure or other concerns. The request indicated that several people had used 'fat burners' in the past and had to be hospitalized due to an increased heart rate.
Robin Freytag, the product manager who helped develop the waiFIT products over a two year period, has beautifully addressed this question.
Here is Robin Freytag's response to the question of safety:
Thank you for the opportunity to address this important question. With stacker and ephedra-type products having been previously available boosting significant weight loss promise but delivering significant cardiac concerns, I can fully appreciate what you're up against. Here are a few things that should put your mind at ease. First of all, the amount of caffeine that is actually being consumed is not much greater than a tall cup of coffee-esp if we're talking expresso or cappachino which include more caffeine.
The capsule indicates a single veggie cap. The dose indicates three capsules (that's the maximum dose). And the day obviously indicates the maximum 6 capsules a day doses.
A word about the key ingredients:
Green tea contains powerful antioxidants called catechin polyphenols that are responsible for many of the health benefits in green tea. One of them in particular, EGCG, has been found to stimulate the metabolism and accelerate weight loss. EGCG, along with the caffeine in green tea, stimulates the central nervous system and causes fat to be released into the blood stream for the body to use as fuel. This process of fat being used as energy is called thermogenesis. It provides extra energy, sheds excess water and also helps to burn body fat. Although caffeine alone can stimulate the metabolism is this way, it's important to note that researchers found that combined ingredients of green tea were much more effective at this process that just caffeine itself.
For centuries, yerba mate has been consumed as a traditional tonic and natural stimulant beverage. It contains over 250 natural compounds most notably the alkaloids caffeine, theophylline and theobromine. These agents promote central nervous stimulation, appear to suppress appetite, increase caloric burn rate and increase urination, thereby reducing overall water weight.
Guarana is an herbal stimulant that contains a form of caffeine called guaranine, which is 2.5 times stronger than the caffeine found in coffee, tea and soft drinks. What makes guaranine unique from caffeine found in beverages is its slower release. That's because the guarana seed is fatty (even in powder form) and is not readily water-soluble. Therefore the body does not quickly absorb it. Since the guaranine is released slowly, the energy boost that is experienced from guarana is not like that of coffee with its sudden rush and quick drop-off. Rather, it continues to escalate over hours. While caffeine from beverages provides a short-lived energy burst that overheats and excites the body, guaranine has a cooling action that revitalizes and relaxes. This is because guarana contains other components that modify the activity of this substance. The end result is more beneficial to the body than tea or coffee. Guarana has been shown to stimulate the migration of lipids so fat can be burned as energy. Guarana aids in a temporary, natural increase in body temperature and metabolic thermogenesis through nutritional stimulation of the body's ß receptor pathway, which can induce the breakdown and release of stored body fat, thereby allowing stored fats to be turned into energy. Active constituents of guarana are theobromine and theophylline, which are called xanthines (a class of thermogenic substances found in coffee, tea and certain beans) have some effect on increasing metabolic rate, suppressing appetite and enhancing both physical and mental performance. They also increase mental alertness, fight fatigue, and increase stamina and physical endurance.
I think the issue is less about the ingredients and more about the dose. A very dear friend and former colleague Scott B. -was cleared to use all of the products
